HR Manager

Atomic Cartoons Inc. is an award-winning full-service animation studio located in Vancouver's busy Animation District. Since its inception almost 18 years ago, Atomic Cartoons has created, produced and financed numerous animation productions for television series, commercials and music videos. Our crew is made up of 250 of Canada’s most creative animators, directors, producers and writers, and with multiple high profile projects underway this is a great opportunity to join our team!


We are currently seeking an enthusiastic Human Resources professional to join the crew. Reporting to the President, the HR Manager is the key partner in providing guidance and support to all HR functions at Atomic. While leading and working with the HR Coordinator, the HR Manager will be responsible for recruitment, performance management, policy development, benefits administration, employee relations, coaching, crew planning, and training. No two days will look the same, so the incumbent will need to be able to multi-task and have a pulse on everything going on in the studio.


  • Be the go-to person to all things HR at Atomic
  • Plan, develop, organize and direct all aspects of the HR function, including, but not limited to; development of strategic initiatives,  recruitment, compensation, benefits, performance management, employee relations and employee engagement
  • Work closely with the Head of Production and Line Producers to identify hiring needs for upcoming productions
  • Crew planning to keep employees moving from one production to the next
  • Responsible for full-cycle recruitment with the assistance of the HR Coordinator; including writing job descriptions and advertisements, posting, resume screening, attending grad shows and industry events, coordinating and conducting interviews, reference checking and preparing job offers packages
  • Provide guidance and direction regarding compensation and benefits
  • Advise on legal matters around employment regulation and law and take a proactive approach to ensure legal employment practices are maintained and ensuring consistent and fair application of policies
  • Maintain, promote, communicate and implement HR initiatives
  • Develop and foster relationships with managers to ensure that all employee relations, employee engagement, talent acquisition, talent management and development initiatives are supporting Atomic’s values and strategy
  • Partner with payroll, accounting and business affairs departments as needed
  • Provide support to Thunderbird Entertainment group of companies as needed
  • Others related various duties as required


  • Several years of experience as an HR Manager or Generalist; experience in the animation, gaming or VFX industry an asset
  • High degree of ethics, integrity and confidentiality
  • A solid understanding of BC Employment Standards and Federal Human Rights Legislation
  • Proven ability to resolve complex problems and facilitate collaborative solutions
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Keep well-informed on the local and international animation industry
  • Ability to understand the business and to promote effective HR strategies that support business objectives
  • Able to legally work in Canada
  • Able to work in-house at our Vancouver studio
